G's Food and Grocery Coupon Secrets
Healthy Couponing Takes Some Practice
Jenny wrote a healthy recipe coupon blog that touched on the subject and then Jamie Oliver's campaign against B1G1 coupon deals touched a nerve. Check out my food coupon blog: Culinary Tourette's:

Harris Teeter's Super Double Week ROCKS!
November 4, 2010
I only half prepared and still saved $82.25 tonight thanks to the 'Teeter.' About every six weeks Harris Teeter doubles coupons with a face value of $1.98 or less (they normally only double coupons that are $.99 or less). I've attached the list of deals Jenny from Southernsavers.com announced on Tuesday. http://www.southernsavers.com/2010/10/harris-teeter-super-double-deals-113-119/ The Super Double Coupons deals run through next Tuesday, November 9th. **PLEASE NOTE: Harris Teeter will only double 20 coupons per transaction. Be sure to read the comments because you can get good information from Jenny's followers too. **SouthernSavers.com links sales with any available coupons including PRINTABLE COUPONS. Word of caution only print coupons for items you normally use otherwise you'll waste a ton of ink and have a bunch of expired coupons for your trouble (spoken from experience). BUYING FOR EASY HEALTHY RECIPES Not everything that I bought is a Super Low Price deal, but all but 2 items were on sale - the coupons I used for them did make them 50% off though. I've decided to steer away from buying processed meals. Despite the fact that we can often get them for change, they're not very filling for my family so they'll stay at the store. G, why buy stuff that's not at rock bottom prices? Good question. There's a few new to the site recipes that I'd like to make including:
UNADVERTISED DEAL ON MILK (IF YOU CAN FIND THE COUPON, CHECK AT BI-LO)
Along with the deals listed, there is a deal on milk this week IF you have a coupon that's been in the store (at at Bi-Lo with their Sara Lee bread display). Normally, you get $1 off milk when you buy Sara Lee bread for $1.99. This week that coupon will double so their Highland Crest brand of milk that's regularly $3.19 a gallon will only cost $1.19 when you buy the bread. Stock up, milk freezes well and defrosts in just a couple of days. The bread would be great for pumpkin pie bread pudding. You can use the coupon for any brand of milk which is great, but this is the best deal that I saw. GOT SIX GALLONS TONIGHT FOR $7.14 (only keeping 2 of them). A whole cut up chicken is on sale for $.99 a pound too. Last week's chicken purchase turned into that scrumptious Tikka style chicken dinner we enjoyed last Saturday. Oops the sale changed to chicken quarters. SIGN UP FOR THE E-VIC CLUB http://www.harristeeter.com/promotions/e-vic/e-vic_benefits.aspx G, what's the E-VIC club about? There's usually at least one or two E-VIC specials (added discounts for club members) that start each Wednesday. But you also get extra sale deals sent to your e-mail address every Friday morning. The following is a SAMPLE of the deals that were available a few weeks ago. 12 oz Doritos $1.99 each (limit 2) 24 pack Nestle Pure Life Water $2.97 (limit 1) 14.5 oz. Can Hunts Tomato $.79 (limit 1) 8 oz Kraft Touch of Philly Shredded Cheese - Buy one get one free (limit 2 free) 10 count frosted cookies from the bakery $.99 (limit one) 8.25 - 9 oz. Harris Teeter Salad Kit $2.99 (limit one) While there are limits, you can still use coupons on all these deals. I don't ever pay more than $2.50 for a gallon of milk (and $2.50 is what I pay on a bad week), frozen pizzas like California and Kashi are less than $2, and so on. The key to saving big time is stocking up on those FREE grocery store manufacturer q's that are literally every 5 feet in the store dispensers or on aisle displays during the weeks leading up to the Super Double sale. Writing to your favorite manufacturers also helps rack up free coupons. Happy Harris Teeter Super Double Savings!!! How SouthernSavers.com Changed My Life...
A FEW FOOD & GROCERY COUPON GOLDEN RULES TO LIVE BY... Shop the sales, especially B1G1 (buy one get one sales) and save your coupons for those sale items only. Buy two Sunday papers (or pick up the Sunday papers from friends or relatives who don't use theirs) to take proper advantage of B1G1 free sales. If you don't already subscribe to the Post and Courier newspaper in Charleston county, I just got a $10 Bi-Lo gift card for subscribing to the Friday, Saturday and Sunday editions at $13.80 a month! Check out the details on my food coupon blog: Culinary Tourette's.
Don't take advantage of the system. If enough people hoard or misuse coupons then a store can change their policies and make it harder to save for everyone.
Stack your coupons (most stores let you use a store coupon in combination with a manufacturer's coupon). On SouthernSavers.com, Jenny will give you hints on when you can stack your coupons, manufacturer coupons are red while store coupons are blue. Now, on the new and improved website, SouthernSavers.com uses the letters (M) and (S) to distinguish between manufacturer and store coupons. Find out if your store accepts competitor coupons. Our local Publix and Bi-Lo accept competitor coupons. Rules do change, so check at customer service to confirm. I've been stacking q's like a maniac at Publix thanks to Earth Fare and Whole Food store q's. Treat CVS like a 'country with its own currency.' Use those CVS Extra Care Bucks you'll earn with pride. Right now, CVS is way too complicated for me to go into detail. Search youtube for 'CVS coupon shopping' ideas and you'll find plenty of videos that'll help explain how it works. Maintain sanity by organizing your coupon bounty. G, organizing food and grocery coupons will take forever! That's true, if you spend time cutting out every single coupon every week. As busy as I'm sure we all are, save yourself the trouble and just date and file the entire coupon insert when you get them. It took approximately 2 months of dedicated couponing but I've finally got my coupon system together. I read what Jenny over at SouthernSavers.com was doing but also mixed in some coupon tips from the posted comments. Tweak this method as you see fit when it comes to coupon organizing, so do coupons your way. Jenny's introductory couponing at Kroger youtube video showed me how to shop with food coupons in 30 - 40 minutes. Her tips work whether you're lucky enough to shop at a Kroger store or not. Check it out below. I reused supplies from previous school years to put my not-so-little system together.
CVS - Drug Store Coupon Deals on Steroids
CVS Drug Store is officially cool. Little did I know before Jenny's class of all the savings that are to be had here. Just play by the rules and you can save like there's no tomorrow on a weekly basis!
If You're A Food Coupon Expert - Pay It Forward
If I had a fraction of this couponing knowledge 15 years ago, our family could literally be debt free right now. I wince when I think about the thousands (maybe even hundreds of thousands) of dollars that could have been gaining compound interest in the bank right now - whether I was using cash or SNAP (formerly Food Stamp) benefits. It's fine, we go through things for a reason and now I have an increased desire to share the little I know with people I know that are struggling around me.
If you've got this couponing business figured out and have time enough to update a website, yours truly included, step away from the printer and personally help somebody else.
